Sell it Again! - Return of the Super 90
Over the past few years, we've made a considerable effort to dig into the history of our classics, whether Pat was covering the historical legacy of a model like our Hudson Hornet or documenting the personal account of a car like the Ghia Gilda; We love our history. One of the best ways to establish a vehicle's history is to see it a few times throughout the car's life. Today's classic recently rolled back to us after a year in the Florida sun. Join us as we sell it again, the 1961 Porsche 356B Super 90 Roadster. This rare Porsche 356 has all the right looks from a well-aged restoration quite a few years back. The original color combo of black over red looks absolutely stunning, with that rare roll-bar from the factory. When we last saw this air-cooled classic, the car had spent quite a while in the showroom, waiting for a suitable caretaker.
When the 356 finally left in February of 2021, it was off to join a collection of much more modern Porsches, including a few GT3 and RS models. The client was an obvious Porsche fanatic but had only ever owned the more modern interpretations of the flat-six and water-cooled engine design. This owner wanted to get a feel for the earlier air-cooled flat-four engines and better understand where the Porsche brand began and its earlier design ideology.
In that case, our 1961 356 Super 90 was the perfect fit for them. An earlier driver example gave this owner a better appreciation of their loved brand. Although we hadn't dealt with them before, our long legacy preceded us and gave this owner the confidence to buy, even if they were halfway across the country. Once the car was out in the humidity, the new owner got a feel for the classic Porsche but found that his taste in the water-cooled 911s was where the true passion lay. Now that the owner down in Florida had enjoyed just over 18 months of fun in the sun, they knew it was time to move on.
Who better to sell the car than our team here at Farland? We know the history, legacy, and documentation of the vehicle. Plus, during the 18-month sabbatical, the car only drove about 500 miles, so it's almost as if it was off on vacation. We always love the chance to see our Farland Favorites again, especially when the owners trust us with both ends of the purchase and sale of their classic. Selling classics twice isn't uncommon here in the showroom; last year, we sold the Ferrari 330 that our head of sales had once owned. Of course, we're always looking for more Farland Cars that we can continue to document and share our legacy.
